Elective Classes

Theater Arts – Students will explore the various facets of theatrical productions. Students will become performers, designers, stagehands and technicians as they come together for a production at the end of the nine weeks.

Open for Business – Students will delve into the world of free enterprise as they learn decision making and problem solving skills. Students will become entrepreneurs as they organize their own companies. Students will learn basic banking concepts and strategies to solve challenging problems in different contexts. (Program provided by Wells Fargo Bank) 

Robotics - Students will investigate what a robot is and how robots affect our daily lives. The course will culminate with students building a robot and participating in a class robotic competition.

Judicial System – Our judicial system will be studied.  Students take on the roles of attorneys, witnesses and jurors, to play out a court case. The students will learn basic courtroom procedures and what it takes to prepare a case.

Technology – Students have a chance to learn various software systems.  Students will also push technology to the edge as they explore live radio on the internet.

How Does That Work? – Students discover the principles behind the operation of machines by building, testing and modifying models. They will understand how gears, levers, pulleys and incline planes work. Students will create with their minds and build with their hands.

Music – Keyboards, Guitar, Drums and Great Composers. 

Electronics – A chance for students to build their own radios, games, and other electronic devices.  Students will take a hands-on approach to the basics of electronic theory, and explore the operation of solid state devices like diodes and transistors.

Creative Writing – Students practice writing fiction, poetry, news articles and biographies while learning how to improve and enjoy their work through better research, planning, revising, editing and critiques.

Art – The six elements of design; line, shape, form, value, color and texture will be identified in various projects.  Students will experiment with a variety of art styles, as well as learn about cultures and artists. Art History will also be a focus in this elective.

Wood Working – Students will have fun using hand tools and creating mazes, game boards, boxes with wood, paint and other materials.

 Introduction To Investing – Students will have fun using a realistic stock market simulation game to compete against various regions while learning the basics of investing and the stock market.

International Trade And Marketing – Students use case studies as the basis for discovery, discussion and debate centered on issues of world trade and marketing.
